The first page is magnificent; a tribute the power of Writer/Artist Neal Adams. The story is a flashback type narration where Bruce Wayne quickly dispenses with his traumatic beginnings and concentrates on what constitutes the story to be told in six issues. A little later we learned how the Batman name came into being, at least in Adams’ point-of-view.
The panels depicting Batman’s wrist wound as he rides the top of the train is vintage Neal Adams and why he is one of the best Batman artist still making comics come alive.
There is a mystery here that the Man-Bat is ready to share with Batman but is unable to do so. Many of Batman’s rivals are at the heart of the mystery and Batman, using deduction as Sherlock Holmes, will unravel the mystery throughout the remaining issues but in the process we get to see an amazing bat-mobile that flies and it converts to a boat, and is so unlike the traditional bat-mobile to be worthy of the panels it is included in.
Let’s not forget about the sneak sketches that Neal Adams gives us to entice us for the next issue of Batman Odyssey.
