Great Story and Appropriate Art Work

Ed Brubaker’s Incognito read like an Alan Moore story, so Ed take this fact as a complement.

As I read this first issue it triggers memories of Alan Moore’s work, such as the Watchmen. The narration is crisp and dives into the inner conflicts of the main character and the release he feels as he becomes someone else, whether Santa or the mask vigilante. We know that he is playing out a fantasy and is not a true hero in the sense of doing good for its own sake. His motivations are selfish.

Brubaker is flexing his writing powers as he goes back to the pulp tradition to re-imagine a new set of characters for our enjoyment. The accompanying art work is so in-tune with the story that one is hard press to imagine the words been accompanied by different art work; they are made for each other.

Looking at this cover it reminds me of Frank Miller. There is a clear Miller influenece here.
