Jonathan Hickman's title "MANHATTAN PROJECTS" is a creepy historical retelling pseudo-based off of real life events, but with that unique scientific twist that Hickman's so good at.
The basic premise of this title is that the MANHATTAN PROJECTS in Hickman's world are a front for more scientific advances and research than we could have imagined. There's so much more than the atomic bomb going on here. And Oppenheimer is there as well...both of him. Without giving away too much of the story, it will make more sense when you read it. But he's ruthless. And there's a cameo of Albert Einstein as well that's a little foreboding and cool at the same time.
The artwork in my opinion leaves little to be desired, but the writing is interesting enough that I want to keep reading the book to see what transpires. The cover gave very little away, but it was enough to make my buy the book since it looked like a vintage government file with nothing more than a logo design and some words. Whoever's idea that was: kudos.
From a collector's standpoint, as with most first issues from IMAGE, there's not many of them printed, because store's never know what will be a snoozer or their next WALKING DEAD. My local store had one copy and it came home with me. 5 days ago, DIGITALSPY.com reported that this book sold out at the distributor level and a second print is forthcoming. Do yourself a favor, head to your local comic shop and go buy their one copy.
