I think I ordered this by accident. I'm pretty sure I meant to get Secret Identity, but I'm not terribly broken up about it because Birthright is a good read. Mark Waid tosses out a lot of fun ideas and Lenil Francis Yu's art is mostly outstanding. If this were just super-hero #45235's origin story, it'd be excellent. The problem is, it is Superman's. And really, I just don't understand the need to muck with Superman's origin this much. There's a LOT of stuff brought in to make it more like the Smallville television show and there's a LOT of stuff just flat out changed about Clark Kent deciding to become Superman and the first few days on the job. Again, it's great storytelling and I really like it on that level, but anytime I thought about it too much I'd become disinterested. I'm not even sure that any reference has ever been made to the changes in the "real" DCU. Did this become the DC equivalent of Spider-Man: Chapter One?
