It's so refreshing to pick up a book like FANTASTIC FOUR #600 and NOT feel taken for a ride due to the $7.99 cover price. It's even more refreshing to feel good about money you've spent on this entire SERIES of comics written by Jonathan Hickman during his respective stints on both FF's Fantastic and Future. Seriously, what a great read.
And maybe that's what's so great about the current FF/Fantastic Four mythology: it's damn good storytelling and just the right amount of detailed artwork to bring out the drama without being overly dramatic artistically.
This book might be 80-pages, but it's 80-pages of NEW CONTENT. All written by Hickman and gives you insight to many of the current storylines floating around out there in the Marvel Universe. We're hip-deep in the effects of the Alterntate Reed's plot, ankles-deep in Johnny's return to the Marvel Universe and neck-deep in where he's been since his apparant demise in the pages of the FF a year ago. (FYI: hope you've got a strong stomach for what's been happening to Johnny Storm these last months away.) This run has been SO good that now we've got 2 Fantastic Four titles to pick up now: FUTURE FOUNDATION AND FANTASTIC FOUR, and so as long as Hickman's writing these books, I'm in for the long haul.
Before reading this comic, I highly recommend picking up the FANTASTIC FOUR Vol. 4 Hardcover which chronicles the lead-in to Johnny's disappearance and FF #1-11...which can ALL be picked up on COMIC COLLECTOR LIVE.COM! Simply type in Fantastic Four 1961 (which is the year the FF first appeared) and let your Fantastic Voyage into the Fantastic Four begin!
(Tell 'em the ever-lovin, blue-eyed Benjy Grimm of Yancy Street sent ya.)
