About Hellboy: Seed of Destruction
*Mike Mignola's creation Hellboy got his debut in issue #21 of John Byrne's Next Men. Ready to join the bandwagon of creator-owned publications, Mignola would test Hellboy in this 4-issue miniseries, and would stick with the miniseries format for his growing body of works.
Mignola would later include a comprehensive issue number on the issue's table of contents to better enable readers to figure out continuity. In this system, this series would be issues 1-4 of the comprehensive numbering.
In this seminal outing, we would get just an initial peek into the mystery of Hellboy, his origin and ultimate purpose, which continues to be unveiled by Mignola as of this writing. Hellboy shares the readers' lack of understanding of these facts, but Mignola's supernatural world is full of characters who claim to know Hellboy's dark destiny which had been long prophesied.
Mignola writes, pencils and inks in these early stories. As Mignola's work gained readership, and his ambitions expanded, he would move away from the art chores on all but the covers, and would share the job of writing. *Source: Warlock
