High Octane

Long time Young Avenger writer and self-proclaimed sympathizer Allan Heinberg continues to lead the youthful team and us, the readers in a wild search for the Scarlet Witch. Heinberg is the perfect writer for this team. His careful handling and understanding of each young character is both convincing and reliable.

As if the decision to search for Wanda Maximoff wasn't hard enough, the Avengers show up. Now it's not really clear which team of Avengers it is (Cap is in his old uniform, Ms. Marvel is on the team, as are Iron Man and Luke Cage). This didn't really put me off though because the creative team warned us long ago that the story would not match up continuity-wise at first because of when it was originally designed.

Torn between their desire to find their mother, the excitement of pleasing their grandfather (Magneto), not wanting to disappoint their teammates and the long-time need to fit in with the Avengers, Wiccan and Speed are caught between a rock and a hard place.

There is tonnes of potential built into this book. The creative team rocks, a myriad of characters are involved and the back story is one of Marvel's best (House of M.) Throw in the surprising last page, which looks as though Dr. Doom has a hand in all this mess, and we the readers are guaranteed to be in store for one roller coaster of ride!

I'm glad this is a 9 issue mini-series. If it is well planned out, this will be a perfect storyline to tell over the course of a year.

Whether you are a fan of the Young Avengers or not, check this series out. It is good comic book reading, period!
