Indestructible Hulk #1 is a book that I'm proud to say was one of my favorite reads of the week.
This book reunites the talented duo from the luke-warm SUPERMAN REBIRTH limited series Writer Mark Waid and artist Leinil Yu. Mark Waid is already knocked one out of the park for Marvel with the new DAREDEVIL series (which if you haven't read is very good as well).
What I enjoyed about this issue is the very real sense that Bruce Banner is being proactive in a way that doesn't involve either being too smart for his own good...or just...an ass. Recognizing that he can never be free of the Hulk, Banner has come to the realization that acceptance is the way to go...not unlike a cancer patient that has tried all known remedies for the cure. Banner makes a deal with Maria Hill of SHIELD for resources in order to create, invent and solve the problems of the world. Hoping that this will make up for some of the damage and lives he's destroyed over the years as THE HULK. Oh, and the Hulk is now basically a member of SHIELD.
Waid's writing has always intrigued me. He comes up with ideas for characters that work and I can't recall a work that he's done that I just didn't enjoy. His handling of super-hero powered characters is only matched by his knowledge of comics.
I'm really enjoying pretty much ALL of the Marvel Now relaunches, and I'm pretty confident if you like your Hulk comics with just a hint of intelligent thought, you'll enjoy this book, too.
