About Incredible Hulk (1968)
Indicia title is "The Incredible Hulk"
This title represents the second solo outing for the character, the first being a six-issue title in 1962, Incredible Hulk (1962). Marvel was early in their attempt to resurrect the superhero genre, and could not find the magic with the character that they enjoyed with the Fantastic Four and Thor. The Hulk would wait a year and a half before being reintroduced in his own feature in Tales to Astonish as of issue #60 to bring the book to more robust double feature profile, complementing the Giant-Man feature already in place. Hulk's co-star, Giant-Man, eventually was replaced by a relaunch of a Golden Age hero, the Sub-Mariner.
By the late '60's, Marvel was on its way to starting with its expansion of titles which would accelerate into the mid 1970's. Within a month of each other, Tales to Astonish and its sister title, Tales of Suspense both gave solo feature berths to their double-feature stars. The Incredible Hulk (1968) took over the Tales to Astonish numbering, while Captain America (1968) took over the Tales of Suspense numbering. This left two features stranded from the two double-feature titles as odd-men-out, Iron Man and the Sub-Mariner. The two co-starred in a one-shot before each getting their own titles a month later.
