In issue #3 of Pigeons from Hell introduces Alceebee the ancient caretaker of the Blassenville haunted mansion. He is charge with containment of the evil in that house; an evil that has it’s origins from the civil war and the treatment of slaves at the hands of Diedra, the meanest Blassenville of them all.
In this issue we get a more detailed explanation of why the mansion is haunted and what is required of our protagonists to end the misery this place brings to anyone in its vicinity. This is done in such a way that the words from Alceebee grabs you at the throat and does not let you go until you realize the price he has paid in order to pass the information to another generation. For you see, Alceebee is a tragic figure in this story; his life revolves around keeping the evil from reaching out from the mansion and his mortality is only maintained by the many sacrifices he has made during his long years. Landale’s interpretation of Robert E. Howard’s Pigeons from Hell is simply outstanding.
