While the main story of this book is extremely well done, it is the backup story in this book that really got to me. Only six pages long and with no spoken words by the main character I fell in love with her.
The writing by Peter David teaches us that though we may not know it, there are people who see our actions and look up to us. People who see in us all the things that are our best and most noble. People who our lives and actions affect in more ways than we may ever imagine.
The beautiful artwork by Colleen Doran only helps to bring this story to life. With her extremely expressive face shots we quickly get a sense of how much Leah admires and loves Spider-man. How much Spider-man’s simple presence make her life just a little bit more bearable.
If we all lived our lives as if a Leah was watching us we would have a much better world. If more comics were done this way the industry would be well served. I am not ashamed to admit I shed more than a few tears by the end of that sixth page.
