Love Has Turned The Rhino To Mush!
The Rhino has found true love, and the girl has him whipped big time! Little did we know that the dumb, hard headed Rhino had a more sophisticated, softer side. How could Spider-Man fight something like that?
In this issue Rhino sheds his suit, and is replaced by an android Rhino (I think). We learn that the Rhino has a girl, and she is just heads over heals for him. Her doting is almost sickening, but hey, every guy needs someone.
Problem with this story is that if Rhino is dumbed down by love, who is Spidey going to fight? Ahhhh... enter the Rhino! An android Rhino that is, and he wants to ascend, so he is picking a fight with the real Rhino so that he can ascend! I guess Marvel decided to merge Stargate with the Rhino for this arc.
I kind of enjoyed reading the softer side of Rhino and seeing that he is a real person, but in this first issue, there is really not much action. And the artwork caused me to gag a couple of times. Joe Kelly did a good job of character building here, but Max Fiumara's art work just doesn't work for me. It is OK, just not my style at all.
So, we exit this issue with Spidey talking Rhino out of fighting Android Rhino. Boring. But, the last few panels picked things up with the torture of Madam Web by the Kraven girls! So maybe there is some hope in this arc.
I am, of course, a big Spider-Man fan, so I was ok with this story. But it better get better soon, or that's it! I'll sell my entire collection! Marvel needs to step this up. I was loving the Brand New Day thing until the reboot of these old villains. We need to get moving here, or fans are going bail!
Get this issue at your own risk. There is a second story, which include more of the Rhino Mush that the first story had, so that is either a bonus or a curse depending on your tolerance for such things. I'm saving my verdict for the end of the arc. So see you next week.
