...To the Marvel Universe!
I too, am thoroughly enjoying this series! Our hero, Toby, has discovered a portal to the Marvel Universe where he is attempting to recruit heroes to save his home town! I liked the change in the art style for his ventures in the Marvel U. And I liked the irony Mark Millar has thrown into his search for help.
The twist of a child from the real world trying to find and convince the greatest comic heroes that his world is under attack really works here. After two unsuccessful attempts, Toby's solution to finding help is both creative and daring and involves, naturally, one of Marvel's most amazing fan favorites!
And in Toby's world, the villains continue to basically have their way with no one able to stand in their way. Toby's father, however, shows uncharacteristic bravery. And the last few panels really set up the final issue of this series.
I have been luke warm with the art, so far, but felt it worked better in this issue. I liked the 'feel' of Toby as a comic character - it worked for me. And some of the crowd scenes were pretty cool. And I thoroughly enjoy Millar's concept, execution, and dialogue throughout this series.
Just two more closing thoughts - I have a feeling, we may see something big from Toby's dad in the finale... and I hope to see a trinket obtained in this issue again!
