Now THIS is what I'm talking 'bout!
Everything’s in here. This is quintessential Spider-Man. We have Peter struggling with his love life as well as his own duality. Harry and Liz gather all of their closest friends to announce that they are expecting a child, who we will later come to know as little Normie Osborn. And one of Spider-Man’s greatest foes resurfaces with all-new enhanced powers. There is so much going on in this issue and every bit of it is terrific.
Bill Mantlo put together a superb script. Al Milgrom gave us a kick-ass cover as well as great interiors along with Jim Mooney. I loved every second of it. It was exciting and gut wrenching.
Spidey struggles with the idea of having the Black Cat around when fighting crime. He feels like needs to protect her from danger because he fears that she cannot handle herself after what had happened with Doc Ock (Issues #74-#76). She almost proves him right after the battle with Hobgoblin in this issue. But before that happens, the book opens with the Hobgoblin, who’s real identity is still being kept a mystery at this point, having found Norman Osborn’s scientific notes about the Goblin Formula to which he had used Lefty Donovan as a guinea pig for testing (ASM #244-#245). Considering that trial a success, The Hobgoblin uses the process on himself and gains the same superhuman abilities that the original Green Goblin had.
I honestly have nothing else to add here, I’d rather let the book speak for itself.. so what are you waiting for? Look on the right sidebar, chose your favorite seller and order this thing!
Bottom Line: Anyone who’s a Spider-Man/Black Cat and/or Hobgoblin fan needs to have this issue in their collection. Great character interaction and great battle scenes. The art and the writing are top notch.
