Surreal Villians Plus Robin Has A B-A-D Attitude
I'm sure everyone knows by now Dick Grayson (Nightwing) has become the new Batman and Bruce Wayne's son, Damian, is the new Robin. They are not the well polished team of old due to Damian's inexperience and personality issues. This creates some uncertainty in their performance as a team.
Professor Pyg first appeared in Batman #666. He appears in this issue as some sort of strange control freak with unknown motives. Pyg's minions all have the same weird girlish face forcibly burned on over their real faces. I'm quite sure Pyg will become a permanent member in the cast of Batman's foes. There are some circus freaks here, a fat man-lady, co-joined triplets and a guy perpetually on fire!
Dick Grayson is filled with self doubt in his new role as Batman and as Damian's mentor. At the same time Damian's attitude problem precipitates a lot of tension between the new Batman and Robin.
The personality conflicts add another dimension to some rather intriguing plotting and surreal villainous characters. Robin's own arrogance gets him in serious trouble in the final pages of issue #2. We'll have to wait for issue #3 to see how that gets worked out.
There is a lot to like here. The strong story line keeps you interested with good character development. The art work is just excellent. Plus it's still only $2.99.
