I had very little intention of picking up this new comic from Image written by Fallout Boy bassist; Pete Wentz.
But when I saw that my local comic store had all sold of out copies of Magog #1 from DC, I decided I needed another comic to read instead, as I had cash in hand that would have gone to waste on a can of diet coke later or something.
I have to say, I knew this comic was coming out, but I chose to ignore it, because I had told myself that Pete had probably seen how successful fellow rock star Gerard Way had been with his award winning 'Umbrella Academy' series', and that therefore he would be trying too hard to make it as good as that.
But when I actually had it in hand, I was interested and I put my prejudice aside (you must understand, my prejudism is not towards him, or his band) and went into reading it with an open mind.
Once I had read this comic however, was when I realised that my initial doubts were 100% spot on. This was shockingly dreadful.
For starters, this whole issue is spoilt to you on the back cover! Now if that doesnt make you want to pull out your hair, then hold steady, because it gets just a little bit worse.
The dialouge was so sporadic, I wasn't sure if some of the characters were even talking to each other in conversation at parts, when apparantly, they were!
The plot was rushed beyond all belief, infact, I think they pretty much just summed up the whole story in this single issue! 'Man make machine, man probably fall in love with machine' bla bla bla. Cliche bollocks!
The only good thing here was the artwork. The artwork was digitally produced, manga-esque, colourful and cheery. So I'll give it that. The art was good.
But not in any dimension, did it make this comic any more enjoyable.
Sorry Image, but I want my f-ing money back.
