NO LONGER JUST ANOTHER SUPERHERO COMIC
Spawn is now so far removed from the farly lame superhero Marvel-lite concept it began as it's surprising it hasn't been re-launched with a new collector's edition #1. David Hine has taken the Spawn mythology to a completely different ball-park, and Spawn now has nearly both feet firmly planted in the horror genre. Spawn #179 is a beautiful looking comic, with sensitively coloured Mike Mayhew art. This story centres on a former Hellspawn and is set during World War I. There's no trace of gung-ho hatever the cover may suggest - this is a poignant tale of the horrors of war and circumstance. There's a final twist in the tale of course, and to be honest it doesn't really make total sense in the context of the story, but that shouldn't stop anyone from enjoying this. Wonderful.
