I feel like a total jerk for buying into this comic. I don't even read Captain America, and I'm not all to happy about the return of Steve Rogers happening so soon.
But for some reason, I bought this, knowing that I would probably not enjoy it all that much because I don't really have any interest in the character and have never read his solo title. I think Captain America is cool, I just don't like him enough to read his stories.
So yeah, for some bizarre reason I ended up with this in my pile of comics to read this week.
I didn't enjoy it much as expected.
It's an issue of short stories told from the point of view of some interesting characters who I'd probably not have expected to hear from.
Half of the stories were pretty shoddy and poor, for their artwork or their pointless stories, and in some cases both.
The rest though were decent and I did enjoy them for their intrigue.
The Young Avengersish one was good, and had great artwork. I enjoyed this one.
Another good one was the one about Brock (Crossbones) from within the prison, even though I really made no sense to me, it was cool.
The other good one was the one with the auction. I enjoyed this one a lot for the touching panels of the soldier who fought along side Steve in WWII who bought the picture of Steve fighting alongside his battalion. And the police officer who bought Steve's old cop badge when he was a cop.
It was a touching story and even thought it didn't bare much relevance to the story of Steve coming back to life, it had great artwork and was generally a nice simple story that complimented the issue well.
The reprints I didn't bother reading in all fairness, I might go back and read them later. But at this moment in time I have no intention of reading them.
The idea to end the issue with reprints of every Captain America front cover was very cool and fun.
All in all though, it was kind of a waste of money, and all you need to get from this is that Steve is coming back.
Yay.... ?
