MOD WHEELS is a spinoff of the 1967 Gold Key series THE MODNIKS (2 issues), a teen humor book featuring a rock group consisting of Wheels, Lump, 'Scot and Li'l Bit, also the main characters of this series. After the first issue, the emphasis is less on music and more on cars and racing. Beginning with Issue #7, MOD WHEELS formed a partnership with Kenner Toys, and the comic book characters drove full-sized models of Kenner's line of SSP model cars.

"The Nostalgia Run"
The Modnik pals need to find a car to race in the upcoming road rally. Not only do they need to find a car but they have to win in order to help Professor Henry continue his work in the lab. Once they find a car that they think will suit their needs things start to get harder for them. Do they get to race the car they want or do they get to race at all?

"Gasoline Rally"
This race is not like all the others. Each car will be running on a new fuel that has been created in labs but not yet tested. The winner also recives a grant from the oil company to fund further research of the winners new fuel.
