*Bruttenholm and Eaton are interrupted in their exploration of the Sanitarium by their attachment of G.I.s, saving them from the creepers in the dark. Later, in a bar, a local tells them that not all of the residents of the Asylum met their deaths; that a local boy found his way home...a changed fellow. Bruttenholm's team visit the boy's home, and find him locked in the barn, a terrible vampire. One soldier is lost to the creature before the Russians show up and take over. Varvara enters the barn alone, and returns with the creatures blood on her hands. Later, Bruttenholm queries her on her background, and she tells him a fairy tale about a demon who was summoned by a Russian Tsar, and falling in love with the horrors of this world, refused to ever leave. Varvara is that demon, but she now sees the wisdom of working with the BPRD. She shares that Hitler once had a plot, named Vampir Sturm, to conspire with the vampire Count Vladamir Giurescu to create an army of vampires for the Reich. Hitler later feared losing control, and ordered Giurescu's family destroyed, but not before stealing their blood. They used this to create their army, and fearing the outcome, put them on ice in the Asylum. With nobody to tend them, the army has thawed out.
