Over-the-hill actor Victor Marshall pines for those days when he mattered, but now faces his fate, and goes to store the mementos of his career in a storage facility, but gets the address wrong, and unwittingly stumbles upon a aliens' staging area for a secret invasion. He achieves one more great role, as he impersonates an alien and convinces the others that the invasion is doomed.

Headstone P. Gravely narrates the tale. A convict is evaluated by a prison psychiatrist when, after an escape attempt, he returns a shattered man. He tries to tell a story of an encounter with an alien spacecraft and a four-armed alien. The psychiatrist labels him as psychotic, and only the reader know why.
