Roland, Cuthbert, and Alain have finally been awarded the formal honor of the title Gunslingers, and that has raised the contempt of their young peers. Roland has kept Merlyn's Grapefruit secret from his father, and continues to venture inward at great risk. The boys' fathers go on a mission to trap some of Farson's men, but there is treachery afoot, and the trap was laid for them instead.
