"Monster Isle"
The events in this story precede those of the series Red Sonja (Dynamite).
Red Sonja has booked passage on a merchant ship, but a storm at sea leaves her ship-wrecked on an unknown island with a pair of the sailors. The island is thick jungle,and the man-beasts lurking there prove deadly for one of the sailors. When one of the beasts attempts speaking, and leads the remaining pair to a castle, Sonja knows that sorcery is afoot. The master is Zarkovo, and he tells of being made a warden on the prison island, and, in his boredom, practicing magic until he had converted his prisoners into the man-beasts. Sonja and her partner are taken captive, and when they prove too dangerous, are marked for death. Before the act can be completed, though, the man-beasts rebel and cause the end of Zarkovo.
