*Welcome to the first of the Luftwaffe: 1946 Specials, each of which will focus on one Major aircraft type or project. This issue it's the bizarre Focke-Wulf Triebfliigel, one of the wilder German fighter designs of WWII.
The Triebfliigel was a Vertical Take-off coleopter fighter designed to take off from nearly any patch of level ground. The three gigantic ramjet-powered blades were to reach wingtip speed of 150-200 mph, assisted by Walter rocket motors until ignition, then slowly rise to a flight pitch, crating little or no torque in the fuselage. In the Luftwaffe: 1946 universe, the rocket motors were later replaced by a small, 40-Hp, V-twin 500 cc two-cycle engine with a clutch release to provide as a safety modification. *Source: Inside cover
