About Lobster Johnson: The Iron Prometheus

*After being introduced in the pages of Hellboy: Box Full of Evil in 1999, the enigmatic Lobster Johnson finally got his own title in late 2007. The character has not only been used in story lines that establish context for the Hellboy and BPRD Universes, in stories set in the years before America entered World War II, the villains he encounters are either ancients or immortal, and figure prominently into Mignola's current-day main story lines.

In this outing, set in 1937, Lobster struggles with both Nazi agents and the mysterious Memnan Saa, an immortal wizard who seeks the lost knowledge of the Hyperborian race to channel a potent, primordial energy source, Vril. An ill-fated scientist and his daughter have recently discovered how to harness this power through a device called Anum's Fork, and the race is on, for more than one group sees it a the key to world domination.

This invention of Professor Gallaragas' Vril Energy Suit (VES) is later the theme of Mignola's 2013 title Sledgehammer 44, as the BPRD seize the asset, and put it to use against the Nazis. *Source: Warlock
