Over the thirty plus years of comic collecting, many comics have stood out in my mind. The reasons vary, but for the most part, it is the books that touch me sentimentally that have the longest, lasting effect. This final issue in this cosmic mini-series falls into this category.
All in all I thought the series was good. Not spectacular, but good. This closing issue however was spectacular. Everything from the pacing, to the art was magnificent. Abnett and Lanning are definitely the masters of cosmic drama and Miguel Sepulveda has an excellent handle on how to translate their stories visually.
Once again, the cosmic heroes come together to prevent the destruction of the 616 universe. And while all of the latest cosmic events have had their casualties, the losses suffered during the Thanos Imperative might just be the hardest felt. I was genuinely saddened by the ending of this book.
There were many amazing moments in this story. Death's appearance coupled with Thanos’ desperate pleas alone was worth the price of admission.
This story is bound to shake of the cosmic universe, and I for one will be onboard for the ride. Thanks Abnett and Lanning, for superb story telling during a period in comics where I was starting to lose hope!
