I am not overly familiar with writer Seth Peck's work but one thing is for sure, he really seems to understand Logan! His work on issue one of this three issue mini-series was very, very good!
A new group of villains known as S.T.R.I.K.E. joins the fray of Fear Itself by stealing a decommissioned H.A.M.M.E.R. Helicarrier. According to the background story in this issue, this is a paramilitary group that ha remained under the radar for the last little while. With the madness unfolding around the world, they seize their opportunity to wreak havoc. This is relatively easy considering this particular helicarrier (known as the U.S.S. Prometheus) was specifically designed by Norman Osborn, and contains all kinds of horrible weaponry outlawed around the world.
As he does best Logan is tasked; as the lone man on the scene, with taking down this terrorist cell on his own. Before he can do so though, he is busy cleaning up the streets of petty super villains and rioters. Peck really does an excellent job of capturing Wolverine's personality, especially when he is dialoguing with his new girlfriend, Melita Garner. This is Wolverine as I remember him in the 80's. Passionate and driven, but not reckless.
Roland Boschi's art has just the right amount of gestural play, to capture the chaotic landscape and events of Fear Itself. So combined with Peck, this duo might just be my new, favourite creative team.
I have really high hopes for this mini. Too bad it is only three issues long!
