What can I say about Thor: Vikings? Well first off, let me start by saying this; I am a huge Thor fan. The scion of Asgard was the first comic I ever read and started collecting, so the thunderer holds a special place in my heart. Now that that is out of the way I can say this, Thor: Vikings was okay. It wasn't the best Thor book written, but it also wasn't the worst. Some of the things in it seemed a little out of place for a Thor book, while other things about it I really enjoyed. I enjoyed the time travel aspect of it and the fight at the end was as epic as it should of been. I'm also a fan of gore and horror, so placing three of my favorite things together made me all happy inside. But I also found a few things I didn't like, It never really explained, or if it did it went over my head, how the Vikings became what they are. For a self-contained book like this I really expected some resolution in that department. The character of the Crusader really puzzled me as well. He was introduced as a pious, god fearing, witch-skull cleaving sociopath but he seemed to take working with a Nordic god in stride. Heh, guess crusading christian knights had a brood view of religious ideals.
Any way, it wasn't a bad book. I might of expected more, because I love Thor, but for what it gave, and what it was, I enjoyed it. Was it the most fun I've had reading a comic? No. Was it a fun read? Yes. In short I'd say get it if you're a die hard Thor/Fantasy/Horror/Zombie/Garth Enis fan.
I give it seven arrows through the neck out of ten.
