My two cents on Witchblade #140

Witchblade is the story of an ancient gauntlet that is the proverbial balance between the light (the Angelus) and dark (The Darkness) forces in the Top Cow universe. Currently the gauntlet is under the control of series heroine, Detective Sara Pezzini of the New York Police Department.

Ron Marz and Saurav Mohaptra deliver top notch character to character banter as the supernatural mystery attempts to get going in this first part of a two part story arc. Dialogue from both Detective Sara Pezzini and her partner (and current lover) Patrick Gleason keeps the issue flowing at a solid but somewhat slow pace. Needless to say, the lack of action in the issue is noticeable and it does take away from the overall experience, but it's still a solid start for this story.

The art here is astounding as series artist, Stjepan Sejic gets to flex his muscles on some rather unique monster designs and some rather creepy children. With the Top Cow universe going through it's share of changes in recent months (really years), it's nice to see that the quality from their flagship title has not yet wavered.

An overall impressive start for a two part story arc.
