No Originality and Not Worth It

The first issue of Solar did not have enough coherence to hold my attention. The first issue was simply not interesting enough to warrant a second look. When the original 60s story is better than what can be delivered in 2010 then something is definitely wrong with bringing back this character. I think Dark Horse has made a mistake in attempting to re-create Solar and the only way they may have been convinced is due to Jim Shooter’s reputation. I don’t believe this title will last too long. It’s not enough to have wonderful covers, there must be some substance in between the covers; this series does not have it.

There is a slow start to the story even though we are from the beginning faced with a confrontation. There is a lack of coherence in the story and the pieces of the story that could be further developed have been tried already by others. There is simply nothing new here to attract new readers. I can see readers picking the first few issues out of nostalgia of the past, but that will only last so long. I don’t see a future for this title or character unless there is a clear attempt to bring some originality to the story and better artists to the team.
