I was feeling brave after reading the 2007 Annual and read the first issue of Carey's new arc (whichever name it is - the cover has one and the credits have another). Unfortunately, I found this to be only slightly better than the previous Carey X-Men issues. His words and conversations do not flow. The characters are cyphers that just spit out random sentences Carey wants to push forward with whatever whakadoo story he's attempting to tell.

It doesn't help that no one has made me feel like caring about Lady Mastermind or the sudden sexual tension between Iceman and Mystique (what is that about?!) or Cannonball just standing around being generally useless. The only character of any interest in this book is Cable and most of that comes from what was set-up in Cable/Deadpool (and not explained at all here). Bachalo's art has some good moments, but Cable still has his weird handcrank nipple thing that showed up one day and no one has explained. I'll get plot updates and read the book again in a few months with #200.
