Not Bad

So, it's true, CCL's resident Marvel fan-boy (moi) is not a Spidey fan. I probably have less than 15 Spider-Man books in my entire collection. When I heard all of the buzz around the new story arc, "Big Time", I had to check it out. Not to mention, Humberto Ramos is one of my favourite artists!

So, my verdict? It was 'aight. Not blow my socks off spectacular, but not below snuff either.

I was super pumped through the first few pages of the book. Seeing Spidey quip with the Avengers and the Fantastic Four...well, that's my brand of comic entertainment. Unfortunately, that ended almost as quickly as it started. Then, we were back to the same, predictable "poor Spidey" story, that I come to expect.

When it came to the writing, I have to say that I liked the script, but was less impressed by the dialogue itself. I don't remember Slott being so cheesy! The quips between Spidey and other heroes was good. The search for an apartment was good and the job interview was very cool. I just found the internal dialogue a little, "70's 'ish". "If is use my webbing, which only lasts for an hour, I can...." No thanks.

In fact, I even thought the Ramos art was tuned down a notch in comparison to most of his work. I'm sure this was a request from the big guys upstairs. Personally, I enjoy the overly exaggerated stylings of Ramos. His style suits the impossibly flexible Spider-Man well.

I plan on sticking with this title for a bit. Seems like an interesting enough premise.
