Origin of Thoth-Amon - Part III

Conan: The Book of Thoth #3 Publisher: Dark Horse, May 2006 Writers: Kurt Busiek & Len Wein Pencils & Inks: Kelley Jones Color Artist: Michelle Madsen

Synopsis: A power struggle rages just beneath the surface, in Memphia, capital city of Stygia. Mysterious strange murders continue, seemingly targeting the cities royal families and those in succession to the thrown. Karanthes has been suspicious of Amon, but as of yet, has no proof. Meanwhile, Amon plots, and uses the dark forces of Set, the Serpent God, to influence those in power to further his own agenda. Eventually the king is assassinated, and next in line for the thrown is Cstephon (A young acolyte Amon has been grooming all along to be his Puppet King). Eventually Kalanthes' suspicions about Amon are confirmed, and he confirs privately with the few remaining Priests of Ibis. They agree the sorcerer must be removed, and approach his chambers in the night, intent on killing the mage, however the newly proclaimed Thoth-Amon is ready and waiting and the forces of Set and Ibis clash once again!

3 out of 5 stars - The story here progresses ok, albeit a little slow through the middle of the book, but the ending was solid, and sets up the final issue nicely. The artwork and inking is done by the same artist as the previous issues, and has a unique style that works well for the story.
