Boy, am I ever loving this mini-series. I will be truly sad when it ends.
Fred van Lente has handled Taskmaster and his convoluted origins with poise and creativity. This book is like being in the back of a dump truck with no brakes, that is barrelling down a hill. Only to land in a new village, with another hill!
The story reads a lot like Nextwave, investigating absurd characters with over the top agendas. This issue; titled, "The Town That Was Hitler", is a perfect example.
Taskmaster stumbles upon a Bolivian town that has been modelled after Wewelsburg, Himler's SS Castle built during World War Two. Not only is the architecture the same, but every Bolivian living there has modelled themselves after Adolf Hitler (moustache and all!) It is just macabre!
Taskmaster shares more information around the fact that he can access his implicit memories, but not his explicit memories. This becomes even more important as Nick Fury reveals to Steve Rogers what Taskmaster's "Big Picture" role really is. To top it off, van Lente leaves us with a great last page.
I've always loved Taskmaster, but I can honestly say that he has just moved into me top 5 in terms of favourite characters.
