I remember when this comic came out, Todd McFarlane was hotter then Mephisto erasing memories. Re-reading this issue and the entire "Torment" storyline, my first reaction now as it was then is, "wow McFarlane can draw". Simply put, the art sells this book. The cover art to this comic is simply iconic now.
While Spider-Man gushes over his life and decides he's a lucky guy, and has fun with his wife, the Lizard below, starts killing people. Yep, that's all that happens. But who needs story when you can draw? Like I said before, the art sells this book hands down. And unlike some of the other "hot" artists of the 1990's it's actually really good art. In future Spider-man and Spawn comics, McFarlane writing improves, but for this storyline it's mediocre at best.
If I were as lucky to be talented artistically like McFarlane, I think I to would have bought "record breaking" baseball for millions of dollars, that really mean nothing now. Because when you're that talented, you're making some money in the comics business.
