Okay, so I was onboard with this series knowing that it probably wasn't going to be very good. The first issue dropped and I was pleasantly surprised. I like the low profile characters, I enjoyed Sean McKeever's writing and I loved Filip Andrade's art. Let's just say that a lot has changed since issue one.
I still enjoy Andrade's art, but it definitely seems a little rushed in comparison to issue one. There are some excellent panels (i.e. Beast being impaled by Onslaught), but there are many that are sub-par (i.e. anytime Onslaught is depicted....) I would like to see Andrade take a more Bachalo approach to Onslaught. I vaguely recall Bachalo drawing an alien that looked a lot like Andrade's Onslaught. The story took place on Cable's floating island. Regardless, Andrade's Onslaught just falls short of the mark.
My biggest concern however is not the art. I'm finding this story to be very small scale considering the villain involved. I mean, this is the same Onslaught that killed pretty much every hero in the Marvel Universe right? It's surprising then that Ant-Man and Spider-Girl are holding their own.....
There is still intrigue in this story for me. I just need to see more of an anchor. Meaning that I am not really sure where this story fits or how it is relevant. I am not a continuity junkie, but when it comes to a villain like Onslaught, there has to be some ripple effect, no?
So, I will finish out the 4 issue mini-series. I just hope that I don’t feel like it was an irrelevant cash grab when all is said and done.
