As the title of this review indicates, this issue was chalk full of sappiness.
As far as I am concerned, one of the least interesting characters in the Marvel Universe over the past 25 years has got to be Tigra. I recognize the reasoning behind creating her and putting her on the Avengers all those years ago. What I don't understand is how she is how I still have to pick up a comic and listen to her wax sympathetic all the way through it today.
Are the Avenger Academy kids ready to confront Sin and her army in DC, aren't they? Who cares! The whole psychological struggle that has been the underlying theme for this series drives me crazy! I enjoy books that feature young superheroes. New X-Men for instance was one of my all time favourite series. These kids however border on pathetic. Constantly whining and needing reassurance.
The students are released upon Washington DC to help with civilian rescue. Tigra provides a play by play monologue of how irresponsible it is of her to be putting these kids in harms way. Meanwhile, Giant Man is kept busy all around the world unable to come to his students aid. I wonder what is going to happen here. Let me guess, one of the students is killed and Pym goes on blaming himself for the next ten issues. No thanks, I think fifteen issues is enough for me.
The characters are so bad that I don't even pay attention to the art. Sorry Avengers, but this long time fan is officially jumping ship with this book.
