This was really enjoyable issue and I'm really glad I managed to eventually get around to reading it.
As a comic fan who usually can't stand anything to do with The Hulk, I put off picking this up for as long as I could, at the fear of it annoying me as being just another Hulk story, but it surprised me as it was far from what I thought it would be.
I've read the first 4 issues of Skaar as of this very moment, including the one shot, and it's safe to say that people weren't kidding around when they told me Skaar read's like a Conan the Barbarian comic. It's got that feel of gruesome, violent adventure which Conan has & it's about a brutish character travelling around this fantasy land of beautiful and dark landscapes.
This first issue is probably one of the best '#1's I've read in so far that it introduces Skaar into the Marvel Universe in a really great way, with narration from the spirit of his dead mother. It was done very well and went hand in hand with the cool looking artwork.
It also gets you into the beginning of the first storyline too, making you want to read the second issue as soon as possible (which is exactly what I did, I read #2 merely seconds after finishing #1!).
A truly brutal comic, with a real Conan vibe to it.
The artwork has its critic's, because there is no inker, just a penciler and a colourist, but I think the artwork is great and has some top notch anatomy!
Well worth checking out, if you're not a fan of the Hulk, do check this out, because this is not The Hulk, and is nothing like any Hulk related story I've read before.
