Oh New Avengers you never let me down! This "final" story in this volume of New Avengers (there will be a solo New Avengers Final) balances between moving forward and looking back.
We get a nice bit of back story of events a few days before the Siege and a look at a conversation between Norman and the Hood. They both know that Loki is playing some angle but are yet to figure out just what that angle is.
We also get an interesting look at two relationships as the story progresses. At this point in the game we all know Asgard fell down and went boom. We also where left last issue with what looked to be Mockingbird crushed under a wall and Clint two seconds away from going ape sh!t.
What we get is a well done look at Clint's frantic search for her and the Hoods search for Whitney (Madame Masque) in the aftermath of the crash. In panels that almost mirror each other this frantic search and eventual relief to find their loved ones safe is a nice touch.
You also get the joy of seeing Loki basically stick it to the Hood and remove the powers the Norn Stones gave him and grant them to himself. For what appears to be an attempt to destroy the Sentry/Void entity that is about to go all mental on everything and everyone.
The Hood and Whitney knowing they are in for a world of hurt if they stick around exit stage left.
Readers are left with these two fugitives from the law planning a way to keep the Avengers at bay when they come gunning for them. 'Cause you just know they will.
I say thank you Vol 1 of the New Avengers! I will be sad to see you go.
