David Hine's second instalment of his gripping story which re-imagines the origins of Spider-Man continues to be a real hoot!
The atmosphere is incredible in this book, its really dark, particularly in the writting. It's a really dark, depressing, serious book and Hine works this to his advantage in the story!
David Hine spills out some awesome narration and dialogue here, all tied into a great story of corruption, murder and the path for true justice. He re-invents these characters with real energy, you really get to know the characters like you've never seen them never before, its pretty indescribable how well he has managed to capture the nature of these characters and how he has fitted them into the 50's environment.
Over these past 2 issues of this 4 part limited series, I have been especially impressed with how Hine has written Ben Urich, its touching and very hardcore. You really got to feel the connection between Peter and Ben in this issue which was something which I liked a lot! You felt for these characters!
The emotions you get while reading this are helped (as I said before) by the touching narration which works in unison with the artwork. The panel where Urich made an oath to take back his life for the better and get out of the corruptive cycle he was in, too only be met with something immediately shocking was very touching. I must admit, I was moved by that scene in particular.
This issue see's Peter getting his powers and how he uses them for the first time. It's been re-imagined in a really inventive and interesting way, I actually prefer it to Peter's
actual origins believe it or not!
The artwork is brilliant, I really do like the pencils and the colours, they capture the 'noir' genre in a really great way and it is the iceing on the cake to top of this awesome issue!
If you want a hardcore, emotional,
'from the heart', gritty, violent, political story then this is for you!
