About Star Wars Holiday Special (Promo)

*For all you Star Wars diehards keeping track out there, November marks the 30th anniversary of the notorious "Star Wars Holiday Special," a somewhat misguided 90-minute variety show that aired just once on November 17, 1978. For anyone who has seen it ("survived" is more like it), it's pretty clear why Lucasfilm has opted not to officially release the special in any way, shape or form for three decades. Basic premise: Chewbacca races home to rescue his wife, son and father from the clutches of the sinister Empire, who invade the Wookiee's home on Kashyyyk searching for any evidence of the Rebellion's whereabouts. Believe us -- it sounds better than it looks.

"The Star Wars Holiday Special" has endured among fans throughout the years, however, circulated first on illicit bootleg videotapes and more recently, DVDs and video hosting sites. The special's lingering appeal can almost certainly be attributed to the show's single redeeming virtue -- an animated short starring the main cast (and voices) of the film: Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Han Solo (Harrison Ford), Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), C-3PO (Anthony Daniels), and Darth Vader (James Earl Jones). Most notably, however, the "Star Wars Holiday Special" represents the first wide exposure for Boba Fett, whose character became a driving force behind the marketing of The Empire Strikes Back.

In celebration of "The Star Wars Holiday Special" (or, at least the animated segment), StarWarsShop is offering an extremely limited edition series of exclusive Topps trading cards FREE to its shoppers while supplies last! There are 11 cards total, with one card being randomly inserted in all StarWarsShop orders starting today. Because these are random-packed, we hope fans will want to trade the cards with others -- they are called trading cards after all!
