The first 1/4 of this book had me super pumped. I mean, what is not to like about Deadpool fighting Ghost Rider? And Carlo Barberi draws an excellent Ghost Rider! Unfortunately, once Johnny Blaze gives Wade the Penance stare the story goes downhill.
Carlo Barberi's interior art really works for me though. I love his lines and his proportions. It would be great to see him on one of the big two team books.
I know I sound like a broken record when I say this but, Deadpool needs some direction. He needs a purpose. I know he is supposedly off trying to figure out what it means to be a hero, but he is still just drifting around.
He has become one of Marvel's most popular characters despite poor plot direction from the writing staff at Marvel. Imagine what would happen if he was given a goal? Just think back to when his popularity went through the roof. It was during Secret Invasion and revolved around his fight against the Skrulls. Even the following storyline which loosely involved his defeat of the Skrulls was good.
Give Deadpool a purpose. It will turn a good series into an excellent series!
