Dark Horse continues to deliver a great comic adventure in the Conan saga, this time with Roy Thomas at the helm. From the amazing covers (my favorite being Doug Wheatley’s cover) to the interior art courtesy of Mike Hawthorne and company and the great story telling abilities of Roy Thomas we have a complete comic and an exciting continuation of Conan the Cimmerian.
Conan has embarked as captain of a pirate gang with Olivia on tow. This duo does bring sparks to the pages they adorn. There is a great panel of Olivia that will just take the breath away of any man. There is a crude rendering of Conan and the other pirates and corsairs that is not felt in Olivia’s rendering. There is an intentional softness and curving pencil work with her character that really standout in the panels she is presented.
Even though the predicament Conan and Olivia are placed in is familiar and can be found in many other Conan stories one knows that in the hand of Thomas there will be a perception of newness to the treatment. I must strongly recommend this story arc to fellow Conan fans every where.
