David Hine’s new story arc in Spirit #8, “The Return of Jimmy Bauhaus” is very interesting and looks promising. I especially like the character of Ophelia because I know there is more to her than simply good looks and innocent demure. There will be twists and turns in this story of mobsters and the dead/resurrected/or not very dead escape artist.
I’m not an expert in the Spirit character as Will Eisner imagined him to be, but I can’t the Spirit been interpreted any better than Mr. Hine. The artistic contributions of Moritat and Bautista are an excellent complement to Hine’s writing style.
As always the second black and white feature by Walter Simonson and Jordi Bernet adds great value to the whole reading experience. This is the crowning achievement of the First Wave set of titles, so I will thank DC for bringing the Spirit back; now I’m really interested in reading the original Eisner scripted work.
