The End of the Beginning: A review of SOLAR MAN OF THE ATOM #60)

One of VALIANT's flagship titles comes to a quiet close and a new era is born for the original VALIANT UNIVERSE.

SOLAR MAN OF THE ATOM #60 finds Phil Seleski doing what he does best, brooding and pondering his existence. In a series based on the journey of a man with the power of God, we find this theme often throughout the series, but not nearly as much as this issue. At one point, Seleski removes the very skin from his face to reveal nothing but the very energy which consists of what he is made of now that he has the power of SOLAR. The series ends with Seleski merging with a star, leaving a nice, soft close to the character.

Sure, we'll get "sort of" a glimpse at Phil Seleski again in Acclaim's MAN OF THE ATOM and REVELATIONS one-shots, but not anything near the epic tale this series spun for fans of VALIANT's original universe. And with these Gold Key Characters still floating around out there with different incarnations from DYNAMITE and DARK HORSE, it makes you wonder if SOLAR will ever capture the same magic as this title did for fans.

Would you like to see SOLAR MAN OF THE ATOM back in the fold of VALIANT ENTERTAINMENT's new relaunched universe?
