Wraith is the cowboy that Spaghetti Westerns love to create. Wraith is the ultimate expression of the Clint Eastwood persona manifested in comics. Wraith is a brilliant creation that enhances the Annihilation Conquest story line so much more that it is no distraction like so many other tie-in titles; this actually contributes to the advancement of the story. Wraith is simply the coolest character to come across the Marvel Universe in a long time. I’m simply surprise that he does not have his own title by now.
The concept of a Kree resistance movement during the Annihilation Conquest under the noses of the Phalanx is logical and needed to make the story flow. All conquests will have resistance and the resistant fighters are ordinary people doing extraordinary things. This is hinted at in Wraith and adds a greater dimension to the story; a layer upon layers is what makes a good story.
Ronan’s behavior under the partial control of the Phalanx hints at a redemption point for Ronan in the near future, not unlike Gamora’s potential redemption as the Annihilation Conquest story line develops.
In issue #1 we get a comic character that transcends just this story arc, deserves a more expansive territory to make his presence felt in the Marvel Universe, and contributes decisively to a story that is already redefining the cosmic playground that is the Marvel universe at its best.
