One of the things that this series does well is balance multiple storylines at the same time. The current Secret Invasion arc has been following the activities of some Skrull infiltrators at Camp Hammond, along with the heroes that are trying to flush them out.
An interesting paradox exists however. Yellowjacket; the Director of Camp Hammond, is a tried and true Skrull infiltrator. There is another cadet on base though; Crusader, who is also a Skrull.
This story focuses on Crusader's (whose Skrull name is Z'REG) back story which involves his own role as a Skrull spy. Z'REG however, loses sight of his mission and begins to assimilate to human culture so much that he abandons his mission in an attempt to join the warriors known as the Avengers.
In the end he is faced with a tough decision involving one of his childhood friends. His choice shapes who will become within the Initiative, but does not make the road ahead any easier for him as a Skrull.
There are some really good scenes in this book. One of the best being 3-D man's deception after Guardian tampers with his glasses. Guardian reverses the polarity on his glasses so that he sees humans as Skrulls and Skrulls as human. 3-D takes off fearing that the whole camp with the exception of Yellowjacket and Guardian are Skrulls.
There is also a scene that indicates War Machine is finally going to take a more active stance in the Invasion.
Slott and Gage do a good job with sharing the storytelling duties. And Harvey Talibao displays some very skilled artwork.
This was a very entertaining read, and I recommend it highly.
