What a welcome surprise to see
"Batman Beyond" in the mainstream DCU and not the animated line...although the comic and cartoon mirror each other
ALOT. Readers are invited to come into a world they were already familiar with (if you've ever seen the cartoon "
BATMAN BEYOND", you'll understand) and yet there's a few new twists along the way.
Present is
Terry, the
cave, the
suit, the
villains, the old mentor
Bruce, and even the
dog.
The writing is very solid, and allows the readers not to necessarily have to go through a long retelling of an origin story. You pretty much get it.
Ryan Benjamin's artwork hasn't looked this good in a long time. It's sleek, stylish and Batman just jumps off the page.
If you're looking for a
BATMAN title to read, give this one a shot. If the rest of the series is as enjoyable as the first issue, this needs to be an ongoing.
