With the concluding story arc this issue has demonstrated that if you through a few new issues in a new concept such as First Wave, at least one issue is bound to attract some attention and be critically acclaimed. For me this is David Hine's Spirit.
The “Frost” story arc deals with what constitutes a major problem in society today, the proliferation of drugs into every aspect our society. We know where this leads when we look south of the American border, in Mexico.
The story arc also sets a new Octopus as a major force that will haunt the Spirit in future issues. We also learned that the Octopus is a woman; a glimpse of her can cost your eye sight and sanity. Now that is a mystery to ponder.
The extra Black and White story is worth reading on it's own as is the preview to Superman: Earth One Graphic Novel.
