Napton and company have developed Blackbeard extremely well in the previous four issues. Now, in the fifth there is a clear breakdown in the story and simplicity in the art that almost feels like there is an attempt to rush the story as Teach now becomes the pirate Blackbeard. The art suffers the most from thus rush; a rush that is not understood as there has been a delay of several months between the fourth and fifth issues. We are coming to the conclusion of this tragic story and we will most likely witness the fall of Teach as he finally takes on the Blackbeard mantle and enter the realm of legend. Let’s hope that the finale is executed to the quality of the initial issues; here is to hoping!
